EM-802 MACHINIST Sample/Track + Hold & Noise is a control voltage generator with a specialized method of voltage output selection. The internal clock oscillator— principally controlled by the LFO Rate slide potentiometer - a determines the sampling speed of its output operation.

The oscillator generates a pulse wave with a range of 0V to +10V, and carries a frequency with an operating range of 0.1 Hz to 55 Hz. The pulse signal output is internally patched to the LFO In socket, and can be bypassed by introducing an external oscillator to the LFO In socket. The clock frequency may also be externally modulated via CV Input.

The Sample / Track modes operate as follows:

Sample Mode:

When LFO In receives a gate ‘high’ signal, the sample and hold sub-circuit freezes, and outputs the voltage reference being routed into the reference input. The reference input is denoted as S/H+T In. Thai voltage is maintained until a new gate ‘high’ signal is presented. Gate ‘low’ signals are ignored during this operation.

When LFO In receives a gate 'high' signal, the sample-and-hold sub-circuit ‘freezes' and outputs the voltage reference being routed into the reference input. The reference input is denoted as S/T+H In. This voltage is maintained until a new gate 'high' signal is presented. Gate 'low' signals are ignored during this operation.

Track Mode:

When LFO In receives a gate 'high' signal, the reference input signal itself is passed along to the S/T+H Out. This pass-through process forms the tracking phase. When the gate enters a 'low' state, the circuit selects the instantaneous voltage reference signal as it appears via S/T+H IN, and then holds and maintains this voltage as a DC output until a new gate 'high' signal is introduced.

Noise:

The noise generator provides five independent colors of noise -specifically, Violet, Blue, White, Pink and Red noise. The master spectrum amplitude may be adjusted via the Noise Level attenuator. The white noise output is internally patched to the S/T+H In, and can be bypassed simply by inserting a different voltage reference to this input socket.

The slew limiter provides further sound sculpting functionality, by creating unique glide effects. The Slew Direction can be selected via mechanical switch, and the slew rate can be modified via CV input.
